Rivoire's Famous Hot Chocolate

Rivoire – A Florentine Chocolate Factory

When one orders a hot chocolate in Italy, many are surprised that that is literally what you are served – a steaming cup of melted chocolate.

You can drink it straight, or as many Italians prefer, with a good dose of whipped cream crowning the top.  I can’t manage to even drink a whole cup as it is so rich, I can’t imagine drinking the whole cup with the cream added on the top as well!

One of the most famous places in Florence to savor this delicacy is Rivoire, a true Chocolate Factory and now popular local bar.

Rivoire has been synonymous with tradition, quality and prestige in the world of chocolate since 1872 when Enrico Rivoire, chocolatier to the royal family of Savoy when Florence was the capital of Italy, opened his first chocolate bar in Piazza Signoria.

He decided to open the small ‘locale‘ as a place to not only create his speciality but also to offer the Florentine clientele an excellent chocolate produced entirely in the artisan way with an antique and secret recipe.

Popularity for the chocolate and bar spread and in a short time, politicians, artists, nobility and famous characters became regulars, stopping to taste the refined delicacy from the ‘pasticceria‘ in Florence.

Rivoire today, after more than one hundred years, still represents a must- visit for Florentines and tourists from all over the world.  A historical caffe located in the heart of Florence where chocolate, high quality Italian pastries and cocktails are the specialty!
