Il Fiume in Piena
It’s been raining non-stop for what seems like weeks and the Arno river is flowing angrily and rising quickly. Murky, swirling water now covers where there is usually long stretches of green banks and what is commonly known as The Beach here is totally under water.
One thing that this post doesn’t share is the incredibly loud roar of the water as it surges past. Some points look more like a white-water-rafting location and with another week of rain predicted, it will be interesting to see how high the water rises.
The older generation who remember the Flood of 1966 are nervously watching the water level for fear of another repeat of that tragic November day.
Above is where The Beach is normally located – hard to imagine people laying out getting a tan there now!
